Number of West Virginians without jobs has risen

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has gone up.

According to WorkForce West Virginia, the rate increased one-tenth of a percentage point to 6.3 percent in August.

The number of state residents without jobs has increased 700 to 49,600.

Total non-farm payroll employment climbed 1,700, with gains of 900 in the goods-producing sector and 800 in the service-providing sector.

The largest employment gain was in mining and logging with 900 additional jobs. The largest employment decrease was 700 in leisure and hospitality.

The national unemployment rate decreased one-tenth
of a percentage point to 7.3 percent.
