Former Weirton mayor facing embezzlement charges

NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. — The former mayor of Weirton is facing embezzlement charges.

Mark Harris and his wife, Nycole, were arraigned before Hancock County Judge Martin Gaughan Wednesday morning.

Mark Harris is charged with three counts of embezzlement and one count of conspiracy. Nycole Harris is charged with conspiracy.

Harris is accused of stealing more than $16,000 from the city while he was mayor from 2007 to 2011.

A Hancock County grand jury indicted Harris on the charges earlier this month.
