Kentucky woman sentenced for role in Mingo County pill mill

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A former Mingo County pill mill office manager is heading to prison.

According to a release from U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin’s Office, Myra Sue Miller, 50, of South Williamson, Ky, was sentenced to six months in federal prison for her role in operating a former Mingo County-based pill mill.

Miller previously pleaded guilty to misusing a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration number that did not belong to her back in March.

Miller was the office manager at Mountain Medical located in Williamson, the primary medical practice for former Mingo County doctor William Ryckman.

According to the release, Miller used the DEA registration number assigned to Dr. Ryckman in February 2010 to illegally distribute the painkiller hydrocodone, as well as the prescription drug alprazolam, also known as “Xanax.”

Miller also admitted to accepting cash fees from individuals who arrived at Mountain Medical while Dr. Ryckman was absent from his Williamson office on February 18 and 19, 2010, the release stated.

In addition to her prison term, Miller was also sentenced to one year of supervised release and ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.

In March 2012, Dr. Ryckman was was convicted of conspiracy to misuse a DEA registration number and sentenced to six months in prison followed by one year of supervised release.
