Fire damages Marshall County plant

MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. — Marshall County authorities said there were no injuries in an apparent explosion and ensuing fire at a gas plant near the community of Kent early Saturday morning.

Dominion’s Natrium plant along Route 2 was the scene of the incident about 1 a.m. Crews were quickly on the scene to battle the blaze which was under control by about 2:30 a.m. However, fire crews allowed the fire to burn out.

All plant employees were accounted for. There were reports of an explosion ahead of the fire and investigators said they are looking into that but cannot confirm a blast. Residents in the community of Kent were evacuated from their homes near the plant as precaution, but were allowed to return after about two hours.  Route 2 was also closed for a period of time.

The cause of the fire is not known.
