Priest convicted in case that was dismissed in WV

CINCINNATI, OH — An Ohio priest faces up to 10 years in prison at his sentencing later this year following a Friday conviction on sex-related charges that happened in West Virginia.

A federal jury seated in Cincinnati convicted Robert Poandl of transporting a minor in interstate commerce with the intent of sexual activity. The 10-year-old boy was sexually assaulted by Poandl during a visit to a church in Spencer back in 1991.

Throughout the trial, Poandl denied the allegations. He claimed the boy didn’t even make the trip to West Virginia. The victim originally made his accusations to Roane County authorities in 2009, but the charges were eventually dismissed.
