CHARLESTON, W.Va. –There were several bad traffic accidents in West Virginia Saturday in heavy traffic areas as rain covered the Mountain State. Two of the wrecks were on the West Virginia Turnpike in Kanawha County.
The first happened at just before 10 a.m. within the city limits of Charleston when a southbound tractor trailer jackknifed near the Yeager Bridge. A passenger car was also involved in the crash that closed both lanes of southbound traffic for several minutes as traffic backed up toward downtown Charleston. There were injuries in the accident.
The second Turnpike wreck occurred in the northbound lanes near the Sharon exit at about 1:45 p.m. A truck was also part of that crash. The toll road was blocked for nearly two hours. Northbound traffic was eventually shifted onto the berm of the highway to get around the accident scene.
There was a traffic stopping accident Saturday afternoon on Interstate 79 just north of Clarksburg in the southbound lanes. Traffic was also slowed at about the same time in an accident on Interstate 68 in the Morgantown area.
