MetroNews Power Rankings: Week 5

The MetroNews high school football power rankings are voted upon weekly by a panel of radio broadcasters and sports writers across West Virginia. The rankings include season record, total points and first-place votes in parenthesis.

Class AAA

Notes: Morgantown’s Chazzy Thomas ran for 355 yards and five touchdowns last week. With Martinsburg’s loss, Morgantown jumps up to No. 1 as the Mohigans will be at Martinsburg this week for one of the most anticipated games in the state this year.

Notes: Martinsburg came up short in the potential game-winning two-point conversion against 5A Tuscarora High out of Virginia. With the loss, the Bulldogs drop to No. 2, but could quickly move back up to the top with a win this week over the new No. 1, Morgantown.

Notes: Huntington has been just outside of the MetroNews top five all year, but an impressive 19-7 win over previous No. 3 Cabell Midland propels the Highlanders up to No. 3 this week.

Notes: Wheeling Park made a solid statement in week four, taking down previously undefeated University, 17-6. The Patriots hold steady at No. 4.

Notes: Capital picked up a solid road win in week four, beating Parkersburg by 35. Cougars’ quarterback Tyrhee Pratt finished the game with 285 passing yards and 128 rushing yards offensively.

Notes: Wayne rolled in week four, scoring 38 unanswered points in the second half to beat Ravenswood. In 117 opponent rushing attempts, the Pioneers have given up just 124 combined rushing yards on the year through three games.

Notes: The Indians survived a scare at Scott in week four, edging the Skyhawks 22-20. Sissonville is 4-0 and off to its best start since 2006. This week will be a challenge at two-time defending Class AA state champion Wayne.

Notes: Wahama’s Kane Roush scored the first three times he touched the football against Belpre – a 66 yard touchdown run, a 55 yard touchdown catch and an 80 yard punt return for another score. In all, Roush totaled 301 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns as the White Falcons rolled over Belpre, Ohio.

Notes: Greenbrier West quarterback Malik Boatwright finished last week with 181 rushing yards on 11 carries, while senior running back Cory Cox tallied another 115 yards on 16 carries.

Notes: St. Marys had no trouble with Tyler Consolidated in week four. With a bye this week, the Blue Devils will have their focus on a looming matchup next week at undefeated Williamstown.
