Family from Rupert win $1 million

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A coal miner from Greenbrier County is the latest $1 million Powerball winner in West Virginia.

David Feamster, his wife and three kids were in Charleston Monday afternoon to pick up their check during a press conference.

Feamster, of Rupert, matched five numbers, missing only the Powerball number, for the October 2 drawing. He purchased the ticket from the Go Mart in Rainelle.

Feamster heard from his wife that a winning ticket was sold at that same Go Mart, so he had his kids go online to check the numbers and find out that he had the winning ticket.

“I was excited, but I wasn’t as excited as you would think,” said Feamster. “I was relieved.”

He and his family are relieved because now they have a little extra financial cushion. He said they don’t plan to do any crazy with the money.

“We’ll pay our house off, give to our church, buy a few things and put the rest away,” Feamster said.

To be specific, Feamster plans to buy a new lawnmower and put a lift on his pickup. For his wife, the plan is to buy a new living room set. Neither have any plans to quit their jobs.

The Go Mart store where the ticket was sold also got a check for $10,000 as the retailer sales bonus.

The ticket Feamster bought was one of only three nationally to match five in the October 2 drawing. No one won the jackpot by matching all six numbers.
