HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—Thundering Herd offensive lineman Jordan Jeffries playing days are through.
Doc Holliday announced Tuesday the 6-foot-8, 310-pound tackle had left the team due to medical issues. Jeffries injured his hip, which forced him to sit out Saturday’s game against UTSA. It also kept him out of games against Ohio and Virginia Tech. Holliday says the situation was not going to get any better.
“He has a hip that the doctors told him every time he steps on the field will affect the quality of his life down the road. He’s made that decision and he made the right decision,” said Holliday.
Jeffries made 15 starts for Marshall and had played 87 snaps this fall.
Marshall’s once extremely deep offensive line has take some hits this fall. Jeffries departure comes just a week after Josh Lovell’s decision to leave the team. However, Holliday isn’t worried that he’ll run out of linemen anytime soon. Beckley native, Clint Van Horn is back this week after sitting out with a concussion symptoms and missing practice time.
“Clint Van Horn didn’t play much last week because of that concussion, but we’ll get him in the mix. He’s plenty good enough. We’ll get him in there and then roll Garrett Scott back to left tackle a little bit. We’ll be able to roll Scott, Van Horn and Gage Niemeyer at the tackles.”
There’s also true freshman Michael Selby who has impressed the coaching staff this fall.
“Michael Selby is playing really well too. Selby played more snaps than anyone else on the offense line except for Jasperse. You don’t ever want to lose anybody, but we feel pretty good at where we are.”
