ALTA, W.Va. — The eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 reopened early Wednesday morning in Greenbrier County after being closed for several hours following a wreck involving two tractor trailers and escaped cattle.

Greenbrier County officials said 19 cattle from a farm near Alta wandered onto Interstate 64 where 16 of them were struck and killed by the two trucks before 2 a.m.  Three others were euthanized because of their injuries.

One of the truck drivers was treated for minor injuries while the other driver was not hurt.

I-64 east reopened around 5 a.m. Wednesday.
