Wahama coach retires, cites stress

MASON, W.Va. MetroNews confirmed that longtime Wahama football coach Ed Cromley has abruptly stepped down six games into the 2013 season.

Cromley retired Wednesday and assistant coach Dave Barr has been named interim coach and was running practice on Wednesday.

“The stress placed on me by the school administration in both coaching and teaching is not worth continuing being subjected to,” Cromley told MetroNews.

The White Falcons won the Class A state championship last season and are off to a 5-1 start this year.

So far, school officials are not releasing any details concerning the departure of Cromley, whose classes were being led by a substitute teacher on Wednesday as well.
