PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — A Parkersburg teenager who allegedly stole his grandmother’s car and took off with a teenage girl in September is now in police custody in Virginia Beach, Va.
Both Joseph Ecklund, 18, of Parkersburg, and Megan Ellison, 16, of Parkersburg, were arrested on shoplifting charges in Virginia Beach. Authorities there notified Parkersburg Police of the arrests on Thursday evening.
Ecklund is wanted in Wood County on charges of felony grand larceny and misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Parkersburg Police said Ecklund left Parkersburg in his grandmother’s 2007 Hyundai around Sept. 10. That is also the last day Ellison, who reportedly has a medical condition requiring medication, was seen at her family’s home.
Ellison was said to be in good health. On Friday, her parents were working with Virginia Beach authorities to arrange for her return to West Virginia.
Ecklund will be extradited to West Virginia to face the larceny and delinquency charges following court proceedings in Virginia Beach.
