Pedestrian killed in Raleigh County

BECKLEY, W.Va. — A pedestrian who died after being struck by a vehicle earlier this week in Raleigh County may have been drinking at the time of the accident, police reported.

Investigators said Billy Francis Koontz, 62, of Beckley, was trying to cross five lanes of traffic on busy Robert C. Byrd Drive, near Beckley Crossing, when he was hit by a vehicle around 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The driver of that vehicle is not facing any charges.
