HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A Cabell County jury will continue to hear testimony Wednesday in the trial of the Huntington man who is accused of severely beating a man with a baseball bat last year.
The victim, Otis Clay, Jr., 66, died at St. Mary’s Medical Center weeks after the attack.
On Tuesday, the murder trial of Edward “Jesse” Dreyfuse, 47, began in Cabell County Circuit Court.
Investigators alleged Dreyfuse went to Clay’s home on Apr. 9, 2012 in Huntington to look for the people who had sold him wax instead of crack cocaine and started beating Clay because he thought the man was hiding the fake drug sellers.
Family members have said Clay was mentally handicapped and also walked with a cane.
After Clay died, the charges against Dreyfuse were upgraded to include murder. He has maintained his innocence.
