Charleston CVB opts for more space

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau is moving out of the Charleston Civic Center.

The CVB board voted unanimously Wednesday to move the offices to the city-owned office building at Appalachian Power Park.

The CVB will pay more in rent.

“We think it’s worth the money to get a bigger conference room, where we can give presentations to potential clients and give our staff the adequate space they need,” CVB Executive Director Alisa Bailey said.

There are currently 9 employees at the CVB. Bailey said the current Civic Center space is limited.

“It’s very confined, no windows, it’s extremely small,” she said. “They can only have one person in their office at a time.”

Bailey said the CVB is in no way abandoning the Civic Center. She said they will continue to focus on it when they are showing off the city for potential conventions. Bailey added the CVB would happily move back there after the planned $50 million renovation is completed.

Bailey said she hopes to have the move completed by the end of the calendar year.

The Charleston CVB also recently opened a new visitors desk at Capitol Market. Bailey said it’s been a busy place.
