WVU-Parkersburg set to purchase property near campus

MONTGOMERY, W.Va. — The board that oversees community and technical colleges in West Virginia approved a property acquisition Thursday for West Virginia University-Parkersburg.

The West Virginia Council for Community and Technical College Education okayed the purchase of the Go-Mart property at the intersection of Route 47 and Campus Drive right next to the WVU-Parkersburg campus.

The deal includes a half-acre of property, 1,600 square foot convenience store and a two-story 4,800 square foot commercial building. The appraised value is $480,000 but the purchase price will be approximately $28,000.

WVU-Parkersburg plans to use the property for a bookstore, college/foundation alumni space, workforce development or general classroom use.

Money for the purchase will come from the general college reserve fund.

The community and technical college council held a regular meeting Thursday at Bridgemont Community and Technical College in Montgomery.
