Arson arrest in Milton

MILTON, W.Va. — Police and the state Fire Marshal’s Office working in Milton, following a string suspicious fires, said they caught a woman trying to set a house on fire there Friday night.

Heather Meadows, 35, was taken into custody and charged with arson. She was apprehended near a house on Rear Washington Ave. after allegedly using a lighter to try a window screen on fire.

A homeowner held Meadows on the ground at gunpoint until police arrived.

There have been six arson fires in Milton recently. Investigators said they don’t know yet if there’s any connection.

Meadows told WSAZ-TV Saturday morning she was innocent and was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
