Emotional conviction, sentencing in Mercer County

PRINCETON, W.Va. — A Wyoming County man was sentenced to spend 35 years in prison Friday after pleading guilty to stabbing to death a well-known Princeton resident.

Gerald Little, 61, admitted that he stabbed to death Jerry Buckner, 57, during a robbery attempt in March 2012. Little had done some odd jobs for Buckner but he wanted more than that during a robbery attempt. Little stabbed Buckner 43 times.

Buckner worked at the Princeton Post Office and his brother, Harold Buckner, is a former sheriff and magistrate in Mercer County.

Little told the court Friday his girlfriend had put him in tough financial times and he didn’t know what to do. He apologized for the murder calling Buckner a good man.

Buckner’s family members told the judge Little was an evil man and should be fully punished.

Little’s been in prison before. He was convicted in the 2005 beating death of his brother. He was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and served about 5 years in prison.
