HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Interstate 64 westbound fully reopened in Cabell County on Monday afternoon for the first time in days.
The slow lane had been closed in the Huntington area since an early Thursday morning accident involving a U.S. Mail truck and a tanker hauling propane.
Approximately 150 feet of guardrail was replaced between the Hal Greer Boulevard and 5th Street exits on Monday before the right lane was cleared for traffic. Part of the bridge abutment was also rebuilt there and repairs were made to the parapet wall and bridge deck.
Witnesses said the tanker wrecked while trying to avoid the first wreck involving the U.S. Mail truck. No one was hurt.
More than 300 gallons of diesel fueled had to be cleaned up following the accident.
At one point last week, Interstate 64 west was completely closed to traffic.
