MetroNews Power Rankings: Week 9

The MetroNews high school football power rankings are voted upon weekly by a panel of radio broadcasters and sports writers across West Virginia. The rankings include season record, total points and first-place votes in parenthesis.

Notes: Capital jumps back into the rankings after a 34-0 shutout over Woodrow Wilson. Capital’s Kashaun Haley rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries, while quarterback Tyrhee Pratt finished with 243 yards through the air on 14 of 26 throwing in the win.
5 WHEELING PARK (6-1) 18

Notes: Park took out some of its anger from a week seven loss to Morgantown by dominating Elkins 41-13. The Patriots’ Savion Johnson had five carries for 101 yards and three touchdowns in limited action.

Notes: The Indians used a late push to pull away from Clay County in week eight. They move up to No. 4 with Frankfort’s loss. Their only loss on the year so far came to top ranked Wayne.

Notes: Frankfort drops just one spot after losing to Class AAA Washington. The Falcons have a matchup at Petersburg this week before a key game at rival Keyser next week.

Notes: St. Marys needed a 27 yard field goal with 25 seconds left to beat Magnolia in week eight. The game-winning drive for the Blue Devils came after Magnolia’s Drew Keller gave his team the lead with an 18 yard touchdown run with just 1:10 to go.
3 WAHAMA (7-1) 35

Notes: Wahama running back Kane Roush tallied 258 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries for Wahama in week eight as he eclipsed the 1,000 yard-mark on the season. Roush also now owns the all-time career rushing record for the White Falcons.

Notes: Moorefield continues its impressive 2013 campaign by handing East Hardy its first loss of the year, 16-6. The Yellowjackets have a bye this week, then finish the year with home games against Pendleton County and Tygarts Valley.

Notes: Valley (Fayette) jumps into the top five, leapfrogging Greenbrier West, after a convincing win over Parkersburg Catholic, 38-15. The Greyhounds have games remaining against Richwood, Midland Trail and Gilmer County as they go for an undefeated regular season.
