Animal cruelty charges filed in Fayette County

VICTOR, W.Va. — A Fayette County man was arrested by State Police this week on animal cruelty charges.

Troopers allege Michael Wayne Ford, 56, of Victor, boxed up 4 cats and 8 kittens and threw them on a fire. Troopers were able to recover the remains of 7 animals shortly after arriving on the scene at 7 p.m. Monday.

Investigators said Ford’s wife told them her husband had been complaining about the cats and she saw him start the fire but didn’t know what he was planning to do. A stepson tried to save the animals but could not.

A preliminary hearing will be scheduled for Ford.
