Father charged with shaking daughter, seriously injuring her

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A Huntington man was being held in the Western Regional Jail in Cabell County Friday on a child abuse charge.

William Alan Andrews, 35, is accused of shaking his three-month-old daughter and slamming her into her car seat to get her to stop crying earlier this week.

State Police said, as a result, the baby sustained severe head trauma which lead to brain bleeds, cheek bruisings and retinal hemorrhages.  She was being treated at Cabell Huntington Hospital’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Troopers said Andrews was watching his daughter while his wife took her three year old son to school.  Child Protective Services has custody of the boy pending the results of the investigation.

Andrews was charged with felony child abuse by a parent, guardian, or custodian resulting in serious bodily injury.  Bond for him was set at $200,000 cash only.
