Three people arrested in Charleston bank robbery

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Three people have been taken into custody after a bank robbery Monday afternoon in Charleston.

The robbery took place around 2 p.m. at the Chase Bank on Washington Street East in Charleston.

Police arrested Stephen Spires, 61, of Florida, Bernice White, 61, and Sandra Mullins, 39, both of Williamson, Monday around 4 p.m. in Logan County.

Police say Spires is expected to be charged with carrying out the robbery. White and Mullins are charged with accessory to bank robbery.

According to police the trio met about a month ago at a bar in Williamson.

Charleston Police said Spires allegedly walked into the bank and handed a teller a letter demanding money. He was given an undisclosed amount of cash and then fled on foot. No one was injured in the robbery

Police caught up with the trio on Airport Road in Chapmanville.

All three are sitting in the Southwestern Regional Jail.
