Escaped McDowell prisoner back in custody

WELCH, W.Va. — A Nashville, Tennessee man who escaped from the Stevens Correctional Facility in McDowell County Thursday was back in custody by Friday morning.

State Police said a corrections officer spotted Lanny Allen Markland, 31, walking along Route 52 in Kyle and he was recaptured without incident.

Markland was serving time for a 2011 armed robbery at the Comfort Inn in Princeton.  He escaped while taking out trash.

He was charged Friday with escape along with breaking an entering for a robbery reported at the Norfolk-Southern Rail Yard in Kimball earlier Friday.
