Grandmother pleads guilty to accidentally shooting grandson

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A Harrison County grandmother has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of her 11-year-old grandson.

Tina Owens, 57, of Jarvisville was emotional during Thursday’s plea hearing in Clarksburg.

William Andrew Owens died June 30 after Tina Owens fired multiple shots from a .40-caliber handgun in the dark at suspected intruders.

Police said one bullet pierced the wall of the boy’s bedroom 200 yards away and struck him in the chest as he lay in bed.

Owens told a judge Thursday she had no idea one of the bullets went into her grandson.

The boy had just finished the fifth grade at Salem Elementary School.

Jarvis will be sentenced Dec. 12. She faces up to a year in jail on the misdemeanor conviction.
