Putnam County Health Department equipment auctioned off

WINFIELD, W.Va. — The broke Putnam County Health Department has a little more cash to pay down its debt. More than $40,000 came in Saturday during a surplus property auction.

County Manager Brian Donat said the auction included items from several county departments but the health department items brought in the most money. He said $42,280 goes back to the health department. The bids came in for office furniture, examination tables and three former health department vehicles.

The Putnam County Health Department went into debt earlier this year after a prolonged legal battle with a former employee. The department is now operated by the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department. Donat said the KCHD will determine how the money raised through the auction will be spent.
