  • Say What?

Forget about AAA, single A is more interesting !

    • 1Prouddog

      Really???
Single A more interesting than AAA? I can't even name a team in single A. That's like saying LITTLE is better than MORE. Its NOT that complicated! LOL

      • AJ

Well congrats. You just admitted you cant name a 3rd of the high schools in WV. That aside I think AA is the only boring class this year. When you have teams like Parkersburgh Catholic and Doddridge County (who had their best record in probably 20 years) at 7-3 not getting in the playoffs its pretty interesting. It will be interesting to see how big the gap between Madonna and everyone else is though. Can St Mary's or Wahama give them a good game?

I also admit AAA this year is pretty interesting. Martinsburg isnt as dominant as in the past (the 5A Virginia team they lost to got blown out pretty good tonight by one of the top teams in the division showing Martinsburg couldnt compete there this year likethe last 2-3) and they only beat Morgantown by 7 who lost to University. And oh year Wheeling Park beat University at home but barely lost to MOrgantown on the road. And to make it even more interesting i dont think there's a good common opponent to really gauge how Huntington & Capital will fare against the northern teams. Should be interesting playoffs in A and AAA. To me the only 2 questions in AA are 1). is there a big drop off between Wayne/Bluefield and Bridgeport? and 2). Who wins the Wayne-Bluefield rematch?

  • WVSPORTSFAN

Magnolia can play too, so many nail biters all four losses by a total of 17 points, rough.

  • Dave

Best Valley team I've seen in a long time! Tons of speed.

  • steve

I agee Dave Madonna has a rich tradition in all sports

  • Say What?

Williamstown is in win or lose. Wheeling Central is in with a win. Magnolia is out if pigs fly. Parkersburg Catholic is in if pigs fly. Doddridge has to beat Saint Marys to stay in unless Notre Dame beats Tucker and Tyler beats Bishop Donahue. Simple.

    • Jo

OK..so if Doddridge loses are you saying they drop completely out of the top 16? How would the bottom 6 round out?

      • Say What?

Doddridge drops out if 1) they lose to Saint Mary's 2) Bishop Donahue beats Tyler 3) Wheeling CC beats Spring Mills 4) Magnolia beats Oak Glen. Not so sure the Bishops will beat Tyler, but the other three most likely will happen. Doddridge finishes just ahead of or behind Parkersburg Catholic, depending on bonus points.

  • Dave

Madonna blue dons have a great legacy for many years great program for a small school

  • PARKER

I have to agree with that sad thing is that wheeling central is going to be lucky to get in the playoffs bo ho.

    • Reaper

Cry all ya want about Central not making it this year. The fact is that them not making the playoffs shows that private schools dont always win. So your opinion is fatally flawed.

      • john

that just means whoever is recruiting your boys need to do a better job

        • Reaper

Right. But Parkers point was that teams cheat by recruiting.

      • AJ

No, it just proves you cant ALWAYS successfully recruit. But they prove you can alot of the time. I knew an assistant coach at a WV catholic school (I won't say where but it was not Wheeling Central for the record). And he admitted, you didnt necessarily go say "Hey, come play football with us" but that kid would magically be one of the ones theyd go to the parents of to push for a "good christian education" (which is 100% fine) but also have good financial aid for.

  • Class A champs

All these private schools in single A shouldn't be allowed to participate in the super 6 championship simply because those players are bought...scouted out to come play at a hs against home grown boys...

    • CCHS71

Please offer concrete facts to back up your assertion. Everytime I ask this, the only response I get is the sound of crickets chirping.

      • Jo

That's very good. I suspect we'll once again see domination by the private schools in basketball again this year.

        • CCHS71

Thank you for the compliment Jo - though I suspect sarcasm in your remark. What domination? Other than Huntington St. Joe girls, private schools didn't dominate basketball last year. Three of the top four seeds at the state boys tournament were public schools with Tug Valley winning it all.

    • AJ

Agreed, or if they are insistent upon being in the WVSSAC make them play athletics in AAA. See how Madonna does against public school Martinsburg.

  • FAYETTE

LETS GO CLASS A PUBIC SCHOOL

    • STEVE

Go Madonna, Go Bishop Donahue, Go Wheeling Central, Go Notre Dame, Go Parkersburgh Catholic. Good luck to all teams where student atheletes shine

    • Jo

Fayette....either your post is a joke, or you were not paying attention in you high school spelling class. Since you obviously attended a public scholl I'd say it's the latter. LOL!!!!

      • funny

Jo.. make fun of them for spelling public wrong, and then misspell your and school?

  • Parker

If williamstown wins they will be in single a

  • Jo

Wondering if there will be much shifting in Class A after this final week?

    • Dave

Madonna by 30 over clay batelle

      • steve

I agree Dave Madonna has state championships inFootball, basketball, and baseball. Plus individual champs in wrestling and track. No single A school has that resume in the past 5 years. Though Wheeling Central is also impressive with their football championships in the past decade

        • CCHS71

Yes, Madonna has many athletic accomplishments the past few years but Charleston Catholic's resume is right on par if not above, with numerous state titles in many sports. CCHS has handily won the Gazette Excellence in Sports Award for 4-5 straight years now. Here's hoping Madonna and CCHS meet in the basketball and baseball finals later this year.

        • Jo

          Moorefield's 96, 97, 98, 99, 01, 03....I believe only Wheeling CC. has equal or more

          • CCHS71

Wheeling Central has 8 state titles in Class A and one in Class AA. Maybe Moorefield will catch WCC ..... nah, doubt it.

        • AJ

But they don't recruit. Have 105 students at Madonna, law of averages says about half are female. And 35 of the best A football players in the state? 7'2 295 lineman, the QB. Not to mention they have a 6'6 240 freshman and a 6'7 270 sophomore.

          • Jfserafini

I can tell you Madonna qb's entire family has gone there, the 7'2" lineman has gone through the feeder system and his mom teaches elementary school there, and all the Sophs and Frosh (except one Frosh) has been in the system as long as I can remember. So kudos Madonna way to recruit Kindergartners for your VARSITY football team.

      • Rob

        Let's Go CBs!!!

Good Luck, Madonna. Let's hope for a clean, injury-free game.

    • chris

They play football in Single A?

  • Parker

    Go wildcats

  • Parker

Lookout meadow bridge is on its way

    • Lobo

One win maybe, Meadow Bridge not good enough to win title.

  • GT

CONGRATS to all teams who are making it to the playoffs! !

  • Jo

The playoff picture is getting clear in all 3 classes. A monster match up in AA this week should answer alot of questions.

Keep up the good work Martinsburg and Moorefield !!
