TORNADO, W.Va. — A Kanawha County woman was killed in a single vehicle crash Wednesday evening.
It happened around 4:25 p.m. on Coal River Road in the Tornado area.
Kanawha County deputies said Tammy Holsopple, 47, of Tornado, was heading south when her white Chevrolet Cavalier exited the roadway and struck a tree.
Holsopple was trapped in the car and members of the Tornado and West Side Volunteer Fire Departments had to extricate her from the vehicle. She later died from her injuries.
Deputies said she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, but the airbags did deploy.
Prior to the wreck, a witness reported seeing Holsopple numerous times using her brakes to come to an abrupt stop followed by sudden accelerations.
Deputies said Holsopple may have been the subject of a BOLO (be on the lookout) issued by Metro 911 several moments earlier which reported a similar car traveling the same direction being operated erratically near the intersection of Coal River Road and West Main Street near Saint Albans.
A toxicology test is being conducted by the state Medical Examiner’s Office as part of their investigation.
