MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Could this be the last time West Virginia faces Mack Brown? Will the Mountaineers’ next matchup against Nick Saban come in Atlanta next August or in Austin next November?
Based on a smoking gun email sent last January from super-agent Jimmy Sexton, some put the Saban-to-Texas odds at 50-50, the same way our panelists view the Saturday night’s game in Morgantown:

now think about it,,, think about Luck vs. pastiliong,,,, think where we would be right now with eddie,,,,no bb practice facility,,, no big 12, no big time tv rights contracts coming in,,, no new baseball facility,,,,NO FUTURE IN BIG TIME COLLEGE SPORTS.
ok,, I admit,, I think Ollie will just as soon as another job comes along,,, that's life at wvu,,, but while he's here , he's turned this place around,,, I hope he stays.

Its still hard to believe that the University of Texas will be playing under the bright lights of Mountaineer Field for a nationally televised conference game. A little over 2 years ago, WVU was almost left for dead when the winds of conference expansion started blowing. Thankfully WVU has a president and AD who both took a proactive approach in order to make sure WVU was not going to be left behind in a non Big 5 Conference. Without that forward thinking, WVU could be playing host to SMU, Houston, or one of the several lower lever Conf. USA Texas schools instead of welcoming the University of Texas to Mountaineer field this Saturday! Can't wait to get there!
Let's Go Mountaineers!!!!!!

WVU has a good shot at this game, players starting to step up and all aspects of coaching showing improvement

@jock strap: you have gone insane! With no quarterback, it's like a rifle with no trigger. All you end up with is a gun metal blue stick!
November 7, 2013 at 6:51 pm |
Jock Strap
And did the coaching staff not make adjustments last game for that?
November 7, 2013 at 7:33 pm |
Rock Solid
@jock strap: No we just ran into a team that was more inept than we were. Go ahead and hit a long horn steer with a stick and see what happens. It may not be very pretty. Hope you are right, but don't bet on it.

Why is it people who have no idea what they are talking about find it so easy to complain yet when the staff makes changes that everyone yells for you can't give them credit just make up more bs reasons we were successful.

I really hope that you are right Dave. Man, now that would be big. Bigger than the Okey State victory.

Green Larry, How many people do you think actually read all that dribble?
November 7, 2013 at 5:24 pm |

I read it all. At least he has come up with a solution, even if you disagree with him. The powers that be at WVU have not even admitted that there is a problem.

Sorry, hope that I am wrong but Mountys are just too inconsistent this season. Texas is firing on all cylinders. Mountys best chance at a small bowl is to defeat Kansas and Iowa State. Taking Texas by a score of 34-24. Being at home will keep it close until the end. Longhorns pull away for a ten point victory in 4th Quarter. I really really hope that I am wrong though.

Allan...... I got a feeling you are going to ride West Virginia out to the end of the season after picking them this week....WVU will win this one in a dog fight by 4 points ....

WVU had better make a play for Saban before he goes to Texas...
Here is my plan for hiring him...and fixing the problem...
I think that by now, everyone realizes that Dana "The Man in Black" Holgorsen and Bob "Sweatsuit" Huggins have both turned out to be miserable failures at WVU. Both of these men should be arrested for trying to impersonate a head coach. Their records at WVU speak for them selves.
HERES THE SOLUTION:
1. Fire Oliver Luck ASAP. He created a mess and tried to jump ship...enough said. He should be arrested for impersonating a college athletic director.
2. Hire WV native Rob Mullens (Oregon AD) to replace Oliver Luck.
3. Fire both Bob Huggins and Dana Holgorsen ASAP. The University is paying these two underachievers Six (6) million dollars a year to lose ball games. Plus, the fan base is starting to disapprove with both of them. Both programs have already fallen into the Abyss so what is there to lose?
4. Take that 6 million dollars and add another million to it, and persuade Nick Saban to come back home and coach the Mountaineers for 7 Million a year. It would be a challenge for him and he likes a challenge and the money is right. In two years, he would the turn the inept football program into a National contender.
NOTE: With the 30 million a year WVU is now making in the Big 12, they will not even miss paying Saban 7 million a year.
5. Hire Bob Bolen, (or some other young, energetic, up and coming coach) to coach the WVU basketball program. Offer them $500,000 to coach the Mountaineers and they would jump at it faster than a New York Minute. The Basketball program is a Bust under Huggins who won only 13 games last season and will be lucky to win 15 this season...Just about any sap could win 13 games. And since nobody really cares anyway, take that 3 million and apply it to Nick Saban's salary.
Yes, I realize these are extreme measures, but when the Football and Basketball programs are both sinking faster than the Titanic, extreme & desperate measures must be taken...and soon.
Anyway, this is just my opinion and I think that everyone is entitled to hear it.

What the hell is a matter with you ,Hugs had a bad year and Dana will be fine, we cant win every game ,to get rid of a coach for a bad year is stupid
November 8, 2013 at 12:04 am |
Shawn
You're an idiot. So here we have another Bob Bolen butt licker. Come on dude he's no better than where he is. You're obviously from Beckley and probably went to every MSU game. You can forget about Saban because it aint happening. Go back and rewrite your opinion and please send it to me before posting it on here so I can give it my approval.

Hire Saban? HA HA... be realistic about who you can get!
Fire Luck? The richest and most powerful athletic department made him a finalist for their job. He was placed on the CFB Playoff selection committee. He helped get WVU in the Big 12. He got the basketball practice facility built and broke ground on a DRASTICALLY improved baseball stadium. The non-revenue sports are better than ever. Basketball is struggling, but you don't fire a Final Four Coach this soon. He got the hottest commodity in college football (at the time) as our head coach (yes, we still are waiting to see if that is a good hire). He got VaTech and PSU back on the football schedule. He increased our revenue on all fronts. He lead a successful PR campaign to make the game day environment better for visiting fans. Yes, we should fire Luck, GIVE ME A BREAK!
November 7, 2013 at 6:10 pm |
Big Larry
Oh Please...
We need to hire a legitimate head football coach...not a head coach impersonator and wannabe like Oliver Luck hired.
At the end of the day, the experiment failed...Sorry...
And please remember to take your meds before posting again...

Let's just say I'll take Luck's opinion and methods over a person who probably even hasn't managed a paper route.

there's no way the Mounties can overcome the type of officiating that handed texas a win at iowa state . . .that said , I think the WVU team is building something good , starting to trust in each other , and willing to put a full 60 minute effort in every game . . .if the calls are fair , WVU wins a hard fought battle . . .

texas 38,,, wvu 17...
I am hoping beyond hope that I am wrong.... trickett is just not a div 1 qb, and texas simply has better athletes are every position...
