CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Six Clarksburg residents have been indicted on federal charges connected to break-ins that happened over several days in August at the Stonewood Police Department in Harrison County.
Investigators said 14 guns, including firearms used for duty and in evidence, along with other items were taken during the robberies and used as currency on the streets.
“Some of the guns were actually sold for cash. Some of the guns were traded for controlled substances. Some of the guns were fronted with the idea that they would be compensated later,” said Bill Ihlenfeld, U.S. Attorney for West Virginia’s Northern District.
“Fortunately, through a lot of incredible police work, we were able to get all of those guns back.”
Those named in the 32-count indictment, returned this week, were Jonathan Carpenter, 25, Michelle McKinney, 29, Dominic Sutherlin, 27, John Lynch, 43, Denaul Dickerson, 26, and Kristopher Cox, 33, all of Clarksburg.
State charges have already been filed against many of the same defendants.
According to earlier reports, the Stonewood Police Department has one officer who was off duty at the time of the break-ins.
