Elderly man dies from injuries sustained in weekend fire

MAN, W.Va. — An elderly man severely burned in a house fire last weekend has died.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office said George Hatfield, 87, died Thursday at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Hatfield’s daughter was also severely burned in the blaze. She remains in the hospital in critical condition.

The fire happened Sunday on Main Street in Man.

Investigators believe the fire was sparked by a cigarette. No smoke detectors were found inside the home.
