Mingo County father charged with 7-week-old’s death

MATEWAN, W.Va. — A Mingo County father, arrested after reporting his 7-week-old baby was found dead under a bed comforter next to him, admitted to using several illegal drugs in the 48 hours before the incident.

Albert Matthew Moore, 21, of Matewan, was charged Friday with child neglect resulting in death.

According to a criminal complaint, Moore admitted to sleeping in the same bed as his 7-week-old daughter,
Aubrey Moore, on Monday. He told investigators he awoke and found the infant girl completely covered by a comforter, and that she was unresponsive.

Investigators said Moore further admitted that two days prior to the incident he had smoked marijuana and crack cocaine and taken a Roxicodone pill. Reportedly he had not slept since taking the pill.

Aubrey was transported to the hospital were she was pronounced dead.

Both the Mingo County Sheriff’s Office and Matewan Police Department are investigating the case.
