The MetroNews high school football power rankings are voted upon weekly by a panel of radio broadcasters and sports writers across West Virginia. The rankings include season record, total points and first-place votes in parenthesis.

Notes: Huntington was tied in a scoreless game against Winfield at the half last week before pulling away for an eight-point win and completing an undefeated regular season. The Highlanders will have home field advantage throughout the playoffs as the No. 1 seed, starting this week against 7-3 Lewis County.

Notes: The Cougars picked up a nice win over George Washington, handing the Patriots just their second loss on the year. Third-seeded Capital will face No. 14 Hurricane to open up the playoffs. The Cougars already own a 39-8 win over Hurricane (6-4) from earlier this year.
4 WHEELING PARK (9-1) 37

Notes: The Patriots enter the playoffs with all kinds of momentum, winning four straight games by scoring at least 41 points. The fifth seeded Patriots will open up the playoffs against No. 12 South Charleston (7-3).

This week: vs. Morgantown

Notes: After the bye week, University enters the playoffs as the six-seed and will face rival No. 11 Morgantown (8-2) in a rematch from a game played two weeks ago (14-3 University win).

Notes: Even though the Beavers lost to Wayne by two in the regular season finale, they solidified themselves as legit challengers for the Class AA title.

Notes: Summers County is back in the playoffs, this year as the five seed. A week one matchup against No. 12 Ritchie County (7-3) looms.

Notes: Sissonville finished off the regular season with a 42-point win over Braxton County. The Indians face No. 9 Mingo Central (8-2) to open up the playoffs.

Notes: Wahama will begin the defense of its 2012 state championship with an opening round playoff matchup against No. 9 Clay-Battelle (8-1). The White Falcons have scored at least 46 points eight times this season.
4 VALLEY (FAYETTE) (10-0) 28

This week: vs. Magnolia

Notes: Valley (Fayette) completed its perfect regular season with a 40-point win over Gilmer County. The Greyhounds now face a Magnolia (6-4) team that has been rolling after a slow start and difficult, close losses.
5 GREENBRIER WEST (9-1) 18

WVSSAC playoff ranking: 7
Notes: Greenbrier West made it to the quarterfinals of the playoffs a year ago before losing to eventual champion Wahama. The Cavaliers start off this year’s postseason with a matchup against No. 10 Notre Dame (7-3).

Polar Bears hang on to edge East Fairmont, 3-2
Fairmont Senior got a complete game from Samuel Viani and run-scoring double from Ethan Miller during a two-run sixth inning. It was the only extra-base hit in the game.
