Kanawha County mother facing child neglect charge

CLENDENIN, W.Va. — A Clendenin mother is facing a child neglect charge after police found syringes and needles scattered throughout her home on Maywood Avenue.

Police charged Melissa Putillion, 22, with child neglect creating risk of injury.

On November 8, police said they found Chad Elmore dead, lying on a bed. several syringes and needles were found near his body. Upon further investigating, police found more syringes and needles on a baby bed and underneath.

Putillion admitted to police she and Elmore injected heroin, took Roxycodone pills, and smoked marijuana earlier in the day. She also admitted to buying heroin twice a week from a woman in Pinch for the past year.

Child Protective Services were called in and Putillion’s son was put in protective custody. The child is almost two-years-old.

Police are currently trying to locate the Pinch woman who sold the drugs to Putillion and Elmore.

Putillion is out of jail on bond.
