WVU BOG moves toward replacing Clements

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The West Virginia University Board of Governors took procedural steps Wednesday toward naming an interim WVU president and searching for a permanent president.

The board called an emergency meeting after Monday’s announcement that current President Jim Clements has taken the job as the next president at Clemson University.

The BOG approved two motions giving authority to board chairman Jim Dailey II to search for an interim president and set up the search process for the new president. The full board will give final approval to Dailey’s actions.

After a long executive session, the BOG chairman said much had been accomplished.

“I’m pleased with all of the interaction we had as a board. It’s sincerely appreciated. I think it moves our university forward in the right direction,” Dailey said.

The BOG also decided the interim president would not be a candidate for the full president’s job.

“I think we’ve accomplished a great deal today and certainly have more work to do in the future,” Dailey said. “With all of that said, I’m very confident that we’ll be very successful.”

The BOG will next meet Nov. 21. Clements told the board Wednesday he planned to leave his post around Jan. 1.
