MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Let’s raise our glasses (containing Baylor-approved non-alcoholic beverages, of course) to the $43-million man Art Briles. Against all odds, at a program that historically sat in the dumps, Briles is winning big. And he’s now rich enough to pay people to sit in the end zone seats at Floyd Casey.

Off with the tarp on this week’s picks:

    Awesome article.

Feel free to visit my web-site - coliseum

  • JaneM

John B and big tom. You both are correct

  • john b

Bill Stewart is part of the reason why we are in this mess! Our upperclass stinks and it is because Stewarts classes were horrible! Now that doesn't excuse Holgorsen's lack of a QB. But right now this team is young because Stewarts couldn't recruit!

    • big tom

stewart stated many times that he thought he only needed about 72 scholarship players, ,,,This alone spelled disaster for developing and maintaining depth...He was a short sighted, limited HC and should never have been given the job.

    • wvrefugee

No. Luck is the reason!! By removing Stewart and placing a new coach prior to the start of the season, recruiting was killed! Quit blaming the dead guy!

  • #WV

If WV fails to get the win in Kansas, Oliver Luck needs to fire Holgerson on the spot and leave him in the land of Dorothy and Toto to fend for himself.
WV at this point is a bottom feeder in the Big XII which is completely unacceptable.

  • big tom

with our qb situation in such a funk, I just don't know about this game, I see we're favored by about 7 pts. but that goes away with poor qb play,,,,
this qb situation hasn't resolved itself and if trickett were healthy, I still don't see him starting,,,i see him as a no.3
our off. line is just so so, young and untalented, that who really knows.
we could win by a field goal, but then again, we could lose by same margin.
I say, we win, in a very ugly game, and with our def. so terrible,,, ranked 100th ,, we don't really stop anyone,,,

just a bad deal for wvu football, not used to being so bad for so long, with little hope of improvement.

  • Hop'sHip

Is it true that the two panel members with the worst YTD records have to do the Sunday night Sportsline program, and thus must spend two precious hours trying to fill time talking to an audience of three, Jim from Annapolis (with the popular Maryland report), Ron from Morgantown and me?

    • Rock Solid

Way to go WVU you are now only televised by Root sports. A BIG TWELVE GAME that nobody of national reputation has any interest in. Cornell, Central Michigan, and schools of no national importance are on cable stations telecast nationwide. WVU NO! I think we have hit bottom from beating Georgia and Oklahoma in the BCS. Way to go WVU let's get some more fringe players as recruits who come here because nobody else bothers to recruit them. I don't know if we can lower our standards any more but I'm sure our coaches will try. Feels to me like Catlett and Stewart are back.

  • GoEers

Hey pghmoutaineer, last year WVU's recruiting class was ranked the highest in school history and that's a fact.

If you don't like the direction of WVU's program then don't watch, read about them, or post your stupid jealous hate filled comments. Eveyone on here knows that you are a phony troll. Go back to Huntington.

  • Mountaineer fanatic

I just noticed that they are on TV here is SW Florida. Looking forward to the game. Hope we win big.
    LETS GOOOOOOOO

    MOUNTAINEERS

  • tw eagle

how quickly the Mounties recover emotionally from their effort against UT will be a good barometer about how this WVU team will fare next year . . .they have definitely stockpiled some talent in the program , they have coached them up , and the unknown ingredient , team chemistry - will the Mounties be able to get into the Kansas game emotionally before the game gets away from them ?

  • pghmountaineer

Chet, I know what you mean. Just checked ESPN and we're not in the top 40 so maybe they have us better then 48th.
If that's the case even better yet. We're still a top 50 recruiting class.
And Doug, I agree. That's why Ollie hired Dana to get us over the top and compete for a national championship.
He needs about 4 to 6 years to build his team because of his complex and superior offensive mind.

    • Chet Ubetcha

Obviously you don't understand. The rankings are the number of points a recruit is worth multiplied by the number of players committed. Since we will be taking a small class (18-20 players) we will be ranked behind all the schools taking 30 plus recruits regardless of individual recruit rankings. I understand you defend your knowledge with sarcasm, and that's fine. You must however realize by lack of player scholarships before holgorsen, we were in essence dealing with less scholarships than USC and Penn State and they were being punished by the NCAA. That's why we blow second half leads and are playing so many underclassmen. We have no depth, because we are just now recruiting the talent for a conference better than the big east.

    • Stan

It seems you lack recruiting knowledge pghmountaineer, so I'm going to give you some. Look up these names and then come back and give us a report, Jake McCrary, Davonte James, Lamar Parker, and William Crest. Wow, this is going to be a horrible recruiting class.

  • pghmountaineer

One more point. I just checked Scout.com and we have a top 50 class. We're ranked 48th so things are really on the upward swing!

    • Chet Ubetcha

Set to bring in the most talented class in recruiting rankings history, and scout only ranks based on points based on number of commits. WVU will have a small class this year, meaning their ranking will be lower by default. Btw nobody uses scout anymore, their network is all scouting outcasts fired from 247, rivals and espn

    • Shadow

Are you talking about WV or WVU?

  • pghmountaineer

Rock, not to worry. Our coaches have it covered. in another 3 to 5 years we'll be consistently wining 7 to 9 games a year. They just need a few more years of recruiting and then we'll be right up there with the Kansas State's, TCU's, and the Iowa States of the world!

    • Doug

7 to 9 games was good enough when Stuart was at WVU.

      • Rick S.

Coach Stewart's teams won nine games in each of his three seasons.

Oliver Luck fired Coach Stewart because Luck said nine wins a season was not good enough.

So, no, 7 to 9 games was not good enough when Stewart was at WVU.

        • JaneM

Mr. luck fired (William ) Bill Stewart because he knew Stewart was not a head coach, (William ) Bill Stewart won games with Rich Rod recruits and Doc Holliday was the top recruiter, The BCS victory was all Rich Rod's coaches .... If (William ) Bill Stewart was head coaching material, why was he never hard as a head coach anywhere except at VMI where he got dismissed for a facial remark....

          • Rick S.

JaneM, thank you for finally admitting that Bill Stewart was a successful coach and won games (9-4, 9-4, 9-4). However, I do not understand your obsession with constantly trying to discredit Stewart. He was the coach and he did a good job and now he is not the coach and he passed away. What jolly can you possibly derive from continually attacking and criticizing a man who has not coached here in three years? Why must you always be so negative? Why can't you get behind the current coach and support him in a positive manner? Why do you want to tear people down instead of build people up?

          • JaneM

Unlike many of the posters here, I have always been a supporter of, WVU , The coaches and the players, ( William ) Bill Stewart, was head coach I supported the team, and still do... Always have always will... When the villains teardown of fine university coaches and players comparing one coach to another, I just point out the difference why this and why that ,fact....( William ) Bill Stewart... I have said many times Stewart was a good family man, likable person, and WVU man ... His record is what it is.... When you compare the last 3 seasons with Stewarts seasons I'm going to tell the truth... If the villains is not the same person, they are cousins, and you know who you are... William, Bobby M , Big Larry, Rick S. Always defending Stewart when they are not always the whole truth...

          • GoEers

janenm don't waste your time with these guys...they aren't wvu fans..they are nothing but jealous marshall trolls who never got to see their beloved Herd beat WVU in football no matter the year, no matter the players, and no matter the coaches

          • Rick S.

For the record, you can look through every post I have ever made and I have never once torn down any WVU coach nor said anything negative about Coach Holgorsen -- never. I say give the man a chance.

But JaneM tears down Coach Stewart all the time. And I will admit that it makes me angry. Coach Stewart was a good man and a very successful football coach. His record is what it is.

Trying to defend Coach Holgorsen by tearing down Coach Stewart and trying to place all the blame on him is absolutely pointless, and quite frankly, nonsensical. Anybody who is a true WVU fan, as so many of you claim to be, would not be trying to sully the legacy of Coach Stewart. You would be respectful of the man and celebrating the good seasons he helped us enjoy.

And Mr. GoEers, if you are implying that I am a Marshall fan, then I ask you to kindly reconsider. I am a 1994 graduate and benefactor of WVU and have been to almost every home football game since 1993. I have not missed a home game since the remnants of Hurricane Ivan flooded my town several years ago. When it comes to supporting WVU athletics, I don't just talk the talk like so many on here do, I actually walk the walk.

  • 1smartone

The game is on Root Sports isn't it?

  • Rock Solid

How sad! Nobody even wants to comment! Deservedly so. Can't even find the game televised on ESPN gameplan, fox sports tier. Yet Penn, Harvard, and other bottom dwellers are being televised on cable. We are now totally irrelevent!

    • Troll is back

From the best I can tell the only thing totally irrelevant is your post.

    • Chet Ubetcha

Hopefully you realize Kansas is the very definition of irrelevant. They haven't won a league game in years. This means a network not picking up the game is not an indictment of WVU but their opponent.

      • Rick S.

Actually, it is an indictment of both Kansas and WVU -- two teams with losing records and small media markets.

    • Bdud

It's on root sports Pittsburg. Sudden link carries it

    • GoEers

Dumbest ocmment in history especially after WVU played last Saturday night on Fox!!

Rock solid is a perfect screen name for you as you must be describing your brain or lack of on!

LOL at you Rock Solid you Marshall troll!!

  • Tom P.

Kansas has lost 27 consecutive Big XII games. They have three more conference games to play this year. The Jayhawks are desperate to break that losing streak this season and not have to wait until next year. Let's hope that the streak is not broken this Saturday.
