Dawson: Offense ‘didn’t give ourselves a chance’

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Blaming insufficient effort and more inconsistency in the passing game, offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson called it “probably the most disappointing game of the year” after West Virginia fell to Kansas 31-19.

“We came in and just didn’t give ourselves a chance,” said Dawson, who had plenty else to say in Saturday’s postgame interview above.

With Clint Trickett sidelined by a concussion, Paul Millard completed 23-of-42 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns, but he also forced two interceptions, leading to 10 Kansas points.

“Obviously the two turnovers are big. I definitely could have played better,” said Millard, now responsible for six turnovers during the past two games.

Charles Sims ran for 99 yards on 16 carries. He took a screen pass 12 yards for a touchdown on West Virginia’s opening drive and ran 6 yards for another score with 28 seconds left in the game.
