How could you make such a broad statement that Madonna recruits players. You have no proof. You just want to make up lies because they are good.

  • Larry

Does Madonna have any players from WV?

    • Blue Dawn

larry I think they have a few from wv but most are recruited from pa, oh, tx, and florida...since they are a private school they can bring in the best kids from around the country....

      • Larry

Yeah, that's true, I figured most were from PA and OH.

        • Bishop

Larry - according to your latest post to me, Catholic schools should have no business competing with public schools based on the attendance difference between the two. A very weak arguement on your part. Laughable in fact. If you think this is valid, then by your rationale, Point Pleasant, the smallest school in Class AAA and Ritchie County, the third smallest school in Class AA, should not even make the football playoffs, much less the second round. But yet those public schools are, why? Seeing how you ignore the facts posted by the likes of Blue Dawn, myself and others, nothing I can write will turn you from your obvious Catholic/private school prejudice. Do us all a favor, bring concrete examples and facts to this debate, not far-flung conspiracy theories wrought with inaccuracies and outright lies. If you can't, then stop embarrasing yourself. Don't post again.

          • WVU86

            +1

          • Bishop

I challenged you Larry to bring concrete examples and facts to the debate and this is your best and only response? Yep, you are "right." Cue the soundtrack of uncontrollable laughter.

          • Larry

I guess we just have to agree that I'm right and leave it at that.

        • Bishop

Blue Dawn - If your post is not sarcasm, then I feel sorry for you believing that. To you and Larry, the Madonna football roster is posted on the WVSSAC website. About 30 names. Please go check it out and post here who on the Madonna roster is from out of state. The recruiting in this state occurs among the Class AAA schools. Who is going to send their kid to a Class A private school in W.Va. just to play sports?

          • Larry

I guess so, rich catholic children must be born winners...., of course you don't see many of them in the pros!

          • Blue Dawn

Larry, I guess Catholics are just better athletes....Like I have said, 16 of the 17 seniors have played together since 5th grade...after this year Madonna football program will be in trouble for the next several years due to declining enrollment and lack of interest in playing for various reasons....

          • Larry

The average enrollment of the remaining public schools in the tournament is 467, the 2 privates average 135. If you can explain to me how the privates should even have a chance, I'll drop it.

          • Bishop

First of all Larry, Madonna [and Charleston Catholic and Wheeling Central] are in the middle of the Class A pack. Thus, "most" other public schools are not larger than these schools. More like "half." Second, only one private school has won a state title this year ... CCHS in golf. Thus, where is the private school dominance in sports? Third - any rising 9th grader in WV can go to any public school he/she wishes, even if it is out of district, and play sports. This happens greatly among Class AAA schools. How do "tiny private schools have all these great athletes"?? Name a private school athlete who has won a major high school award like the Kennedy Award and/or excelled in their respective sport in college? You and others need to get off your prejudice soapbox.

          • Blue Dawn

Bishop....my statement was ALL Sarcasm....Honestly do people really believe Madonna recruits fro tx and fl? If so then they don't know much about wv football....But there is 1 kid from Burgettstown Pa on the roster....as u may know , Burgettstown is only about 7 miles from Weirton and Madonna would be the closest Catholic school for him....Just want u to know that I actually do know every kid personally and know what im talking about here....

          • Larry

Explain this to me, Madonna has fewer than 200 students, most of the other public A schools have around 400-425. Doesn't it seem odd that these tiny private schools would just happen to have all of these great athletes. The law of averages would tell me that in order for them to always be competing for and winning most team sports in their classification, they would have to have a lot of kids from outside what would be considered a normal school district.

  • Blue Dawn

I believe the winner of the Madonna/Wahama game will face Magnolia in the championship game. Madonna looking for revenge against Wahama from last years controversial ending where the Wahama RB clearly fumbled and Madonna recovered at the end of the game. However, Wahama still a good team this year. Cold weather could make this a much lower scoring game this year. May come down to a key turnover late in the game. Magnolia the "hot" team right now in my opinion. Wouldn't be surprised if they won it all.

  • Larry

I've heard Madonna has a player whose over 7' and weighs like 500lbs, can anyone confirm or deny?

    • Blue Dawn

Hes listed at 7'2" and around 300 lbs...

      • Larry

Wow, I can't imagine someone that tall playing football.

        • Say What?

Larry, the kid is tall and good size for a high school lineman, but from what I've seen on game film he is just a bit clumsy. What I mean by that is he tends to commit some blocking mistakes that if were near the play a penalty flag would be thrown. Against a double-team he is done.

          • Larry

I can imagine, I've never heard of someone that tall playing football at any level, college, pro, etc.

          • Blue Dawn

U are correct... He gets alot of penalties and is very uncoordinated.... I've seen guys way smaller than him handle him easily.... He just gets attention cuz of his size... Same with his younger brother...

  • Say What?

steve, Whama played Fayetteville(4-6) and Buffalo(0-10). I find it hard to believe there were no other WV teams available .

    • Falcon75

We are in the playoffs now, so the regular season is irrelevant. Wahama has the longest winning streak in the playoffs at 5 games right now. Hope I am not getting too deep for you, say what.

      • Say What?

To quote Carter, "I've taken baths deeper than you".

      • al

Falcon 75 that streak will end in Weirton Saturday night

  • Dustin

I watched both Madonna and Wahama this year. Madonna team is physically much larger across the line and a qb that is one of the best in the state. Wahama has some very quick skill players #15 is very fast if you don't get him at the line he can kill you. I see a close game but Madonna gets it done 35-31.

  • steve

How many in state schools did Wahama play? I want to say two-neither sniffed the playoffs

  • Moorefield

Moorefield title town....keep the drive for 7 titles going!!

    • RJ

Two historic programs meeting in Moorefiled Saturday ought to be a good one with the winner having a great shot at going to the island on December 7 can't wait for this one

      • Say What?

If historic dates back to the recent mid nineties, then I better get my cane.

  • ike

My semis Moorefield, Madonna,Bishop, and West. Moorefield got the jitters out so now they can take care of business this weekend. One step closer to the island.

  • RJ

My dream semis would be a pair of rematches from the regular season with Maddona taking on Bishop and St. Marys taking on Magnolia. The results be Madonna beating Bishop and Magnolia taking out their second unbeaten of the playoffs. And setting up a huge matchup on the island does anyone know. If there has every been a team to beat the Number 1,2 and three seeds. In the same year

    • Say What?

Not since the field was expanded to 16. Would have to do some checking when only the top 8 made the playoffs.

      • RJ

I found out that it has happend twice when they had 8 teams in the playoffs. And who was the last team seeded lower then fourth to make a run to the state title game I believe it was the 2010 Brooke Bruins. And before that it was the 2008 Magnolia both teams lost

  • Falcon75

Wahama, Greenbrier West, Magnolia and Bishop Donohue. I am picking all road teams to win this Saturday.

    • Say What?

You would lose you money on that bet. Good thing your no betting.

  • Larry

St. Marys, Williamstown, Magnolia and Madonna.

  • Kevin

BiggieWV I believe Bishop Donahue is in the final 8 and they beat Wheeling Central. So Madonna gets respect for beating them but not Bishop. Dude really know what your talking about before you put it in words. I believe their are not to many people that would say Bishop is just a fill in game in Class A.

    • BiggieWV

Kevin I just don't think Weirton Madonna is that good that's all I'm saying. Yes Bishop beat Whg. Central but, they both played good and tough schedules.

  • RJ

Magnolia had one of the toughest class A schedules in the state and R playing really good right now. Hope to be playing December 7 at 7:30 on Wheeling Island for all the Marbles

    • Say What?

I listened to the beat down Mag gave the Hounds(or should I say Mutts). Where was all that speed some people were posting about leading up to the game? I do believe their second td and conversion came against Mag's second string. Moorefield-Magnolia hopefully will be a better game.

      • RJ

I was at the game you R correct about their second TD and conversion. Their QB also took a 40 yard sack that put the ball at the 2. But, Magnolia decided to just take a knee and run out the clock. Just goes to show U that playing a week schedule gets U no where. And we kept their QB in the pocket but when he got into space he was good

    • BiggieWV

I agree with you RJ Magnolia always has a great football team. I would also like to see Magnolia go to the Super Six.

  • BiggieWV

    1. I don't know Wahamas schedule. And 2. if Weirton Madonna thinks they're really good and deserves respect then play better schools besides bishop Donahue, Cameron, Bridgeport OH, etc. seriously it can't be that hard to find good schools around WV and OH
