NEW YORK, NY—Thundering Herd tight end Gator Hoskins has been named one of the eight semi-finalists for the 2013 John Mackey Award.
The award is given annually to the most outstanding tight end in college football.
Hoskins is a favorite target of quarterback Rakeem Cato when the offense nears the goal line. Hoskins has nine touchdown receptions this season. About one of every three receptions pulled in by Hoskins is for a score. Hoskins is tied for 10th in the country in receiving touchdowns and has the most scoring grabs among tight ends.
The other semifinalists are Jace Amaro (Texas Tech), Ted Bolser (Indiana), Eric Ebron (North Carolina), Devin Funchess (Michigan), Troy Niklas (Notre Dame), Nick O’Leary (Florida State) and Austin Seferina-Jenkins (Washington).
Hoskins is the only semifinalist from a non-automatic qualifier for the BCS.
The winner will be announced on December 11 and presented the next day at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
