Student, 18, arrested after lockdowns at 2 Parkersburg schools

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — A Wood County teenager is facing a misdemeanor charge for an incident that led to lockdowns at two Parkersburg high schools on Wednesday.

Jonathan Michael Loncala, 18, of Parkersburg, was charged with using a cell phone to threaten a crime against any person or property.

He allegedly sent a series of threatening text messages to another person, including a message with a photo of a gun. In those text messages, Parkersburg police said Loncala indicated he was going to use a gun and kill another juvenile male.

Loncala was not at Parkersburg High School on Wednesday morning when a precautionary lockdown started. He later voluntarily went to the Parkersburg Police Department for questioning before being arrested.

Parkersburg South High School was on lockdown as well briefly on Wednesday, because Loncala reportedly has a girlfriend who went to school there.

Both lockdowns were lifted before 11 a.m.

After being arraigned Wednesday, Loncala could not post $10,000 bond and was taken to the North Central Regional Jail.  If he is convicted, he could be forced to pay a $500 fine and spend up to six months in jail.
