Roasted Red Onions

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Motorists on Interstates 64 and 77 traveling through Charleston Friday had to put on the brakes for several hours following a truck fire.

The truck was filled with onions. The fire began just before morning rush hour near the Leon Sullivan Way exit.

Hundreds of the onions were destroyed or scorched but several seemed to survive intact. The state DOH hauled them to one of their lots in the Charleston area.

The driver of the truck was not hurt in the fire.

The scene was cleared at around 12:30 p.m. Friday.
