Hunter has close encounter with mama bear

MASONTOWN, W.Va. — A deer hunter in Preston County found himself in a tight spot Monday evening when he ran into a pair of bears.

The man called Preston County 911 around 5:15 p.m. asking for help. He said he had fallen 300 feet from the Cheat Canyon into the Cheat River.

The hunter, who’s name has not been released, ended up between a mama bear and her cub. She was not happy. The man, attempting to get out of the way, fell. He suffered a separated knee but is expected to make a full recovery. It took emergency crews about 90 minutes to rescue him.
