Human remains found in Jefferson County

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. — It will be up to officials with the West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office to identify the human remains found on Thanksgiving Day in Jefferson County.

Officials with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department confirmed hunters found the remains near the Shenandoah River in Harpers Ferry on Thursday.

Investigators said they believed the remains had been there for some time, but could not provide any additional information about a possible identity without assistance from forensic experts.

A report from state officials was expected to be returned in December.
