Braxton body at state Medical Examiner’s Office

GASSAWAY, W.Va. — The body of a woman was discovered in the Elk River near Gassaway Monday night.

Braxton County Sheriff’s Department deputies said Tuesday they have identified the woman, but are not releasing the information. Deputies said although the woman’s family has been notified, there are other family members out of state who haven’t yet learned of the tragedy.

The investigation into her death is underway.  The woman’s body has been sent to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine a cause of death. Deputies would not say if foul play is suspected and would not say who found the body.
