Expect WVU interim president decision Thursday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The West Virginia Board of Governors met in executive session for nearly three hours Tuesday but took no action on the position of interim university president.

BOG Chairman James Dailey II said the board would meet again Thursday morning with the possibility of voting on an interim president and the search process for the permanent president.

Current WVU President Jim Clements was introduced last month as the next president at Clemson University. Clements plans to move in early January.

BOG Chair Dailey had a lot of praise for fellow board members Tuesday.

“(The board) has worked as hard as any that I’ve ever been associated with,” Dailey said. “I think as a result of that we’ve made tremendous progress over the last three meetings.”

The BOG has already decided the interim president would not be a candidate for the permanent job.

The state Higher Education Policy Commission, which has to approve the interim president and search process for the decisions to be final, has a previously scheduled meeting for Friday. The WVU BOG wants to get its work to HEPC for approval at that meeting.
