Man arrested after hit and run near Beverly

BEVERLY, W.Va. — A man is behind bars after a hit and run Friday afternoon outside of Beverly.

State Police in Elkins arrested Matthew Blake, 32, and charged him with DUI causing personal injury, leaving the scene of an accident, possession of a controlled substance and possession less than 15 grams of marijuana.

Police said Blake struck Justin Browning, 18, with his car while driving around a turn on Rt. 219. Blake was answering his cell phone when he traveled off of the roadway and struck Browning. A second person was walking with Browning at the time, but was not hurt.

Browning was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital where he is listed in critical condition. Blake is being held in Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
