NUTTER FORT, W.Va. — An 8-year-old Harrison County boy was reunited with his father Tuesday evening after police say he had been illegally taken by his mother when he got off the bus at Nutter Fort Elementary School earlier in the day.

Police said Sara Shirkey of Canton, Ohio has no custodial rights to her son but took him back to Ohio where authorities found them Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities said the boy’s father told them there had been a problem at the bus stop with Shirkey. She was charged with felony child concealment and was in custody in Ohio Tuesday evening awaiting extradition.

No custodial rights? Sounds like a WONDERFUL mother.

Hello I'm the father of the 8 year old that was taken, I just don't get why she would think she had to do something like this to see her son, all she had to do was say she wanted some time with him which I would of been fine with. I'm just so glad to have my son safe and home and to answer your question I don't know why she is not being charged with kidnapping

From a legal standpoint you can charge her with a lesser crime than increase it to kidnapping. It is basically a charge that will stick easier in order to keep her in custody.

Felony child concealment? If she had no rights to the child why not charge her with kidnapping?

Shirkey responsibility, go to jail. lmao
