WHEELING, W.Va. — A live in-game blog of the Class AAA state championship game between Martinsburg and Huntington.
Four in a row...Four. Let's see somebody try that. It was far from pretty. That defense is the best they've seen since Briar Woods a couple years ago.
December 7, 2013 at 2:23 pm |
It's a Bulldog dynasty, 4 in a row, with a strong nucleus coming back next year, we just mite win 5, much respect to Huntington, they played a good game, but the most dominant team in the state prevailed again
December 7, 2013 at 2:22 pm |
I would say the most dominant team in the state had the edge in every way besides the score, and penalties. Oh that's right, the purpose of the game is to score mie points. Martinsburg did. Great game. Hhs had its chances late and the martinsburg d stepped up.
December 7, 2013 at 3:09 pm |
Scoreboard Fall Fan.......scoreboard!!!! The only team that gets caught up in statistics and would of;s/shoud of's is the loser. MRB has played a lot of great teams over the last 4 years with many being outside the state of WV. They have had that ability to find a way to win when it has counted. They have also lost a couple games to MD and VA schools where they should have won.....but they didn't. They learned from the game and got better. I think that was the difference in today's outcome. Most Dogs fans will agree that this MRB team overachieved. No way this team beats the MRB teams from the last three years. But you know what, they found a way to win an unprecedented fourth straight state championship. Give credit where credit is due!! HHS will have their day.
December 7, 2013 at 4:56 pm |
Read my post. I did give credit. Martinsburg scored 2 more points. Even game, martinsburg pitched a shut out in the first, hhs in the second. Special teams won this one for you all. Congrats. Huntington won in the trenches and could have won but didnt.
December 8, 2013 at 9:28 am |
Hey fan, how do you figure Huntington won in the trenches? Martinsburg's 9-7 win proves you wrong in this respect!
December 8, 2013 at 9:09 pm |
ya fall fan that sounds like the old saying The dog would have caught the rabbit if he didn't stop and take a @!/?%$#&!!!!
December 8, 2013 at 1:04 pm |
Really? HHS had 1 first down in the first half...the only time they reached midfield. MHS moved the ball in the first half but didn't finish drives
December 7, 2013 at 3:59 pm |
So how much offense did martinsburg generate in the second half. Call the game as it was, 1st half dominated by the bulldogs defensively, second half by the hhs defense, blocked punt was the difference. Despite a late mistake, martinsburg shut down the hhs last attempts to pull ahead. Awesome game, and martinsburg earned their 4th.
December 9, 2013 at 11:56 am |
Free Cheese for all of the whiners from the E. Panhandle. All of our kids @ HHS are from WV.. Great job, HHS. We will be back.
December 7, 2013 at 2:20 pm |
you all have no sportsmanship, and have no class at all. you as parents and coaches should be ashamed of yourself for the ending... NO CLASS AT ALL!!!! All the other teams the dogs played . had alot of class. Not huntington at the end. One player getting thrown out for his dirty play, when we were kneeling to end the game. Another getting pushed off the field by an official, and then the head IDIOT/ THUG Tubbs #7 acting like he had a gun pointed at our boys. NO CLASS AT ALL... YOU WERE OUTCLASSED,OUTPLAYED, AND OUTCOACHED... The way your kids acted, they dont deserve to ever come back... BUNCH of CLASSLESS CLOWNS... YOU GOT DOMINATED BY THE BEST DEFENSE IN THE STATE... THE MARTINSBURG BULLDOGS... THE FOUR TIME DEFENDING STATE CHAMPS|.... Spring valley, Cabell midland, and Capital, Hold your heads high... You all were very classy. Look out for Capital next year, and the DOGS... Huntington, you all wont even sniff the playoffs next year. BULLDOGS are the #1 team in the state again. You bunch of classless CLOWNS,are just that... CLASSLESS.......
December 8, 2013 at 2:13 am |
What a ridiculous post. Are you joking because you sound like an completely ignorant person. HHS is far form what you describe and please we all know that the farther South you go in WV the classier it becomes. Those boys earned their #1 ranking, they played their hearts out and Martinsburg was the winner (barely). Dont take away from what happened on the field, both these teams played excellent defense and yes HHS shut Martinsburg down it's OK to to admit it. Martinsburg made 1 more play and it was the difference. Thats how football goes. Again if your going to call out players by name then since they are under the guardianship of their parents you should address the adults not the children. I would wager you dont have a pair that would allow you to do that. Get over yourselves.
December 10, 2013 at 9:51 am |
Herd....I told you before....I'll sit down and have this talk with the parents of the HHS players that were ejected. Especially if they want to defend their actions.
December 10, 2013 at 12:40 pm |
Yes sir, I agree with you in the end that we didn't show class with a select few players trying to go in when you guys were kneeling. But to call the whole team thugs and not have any class is a mistake. If you saw we had our own players trying to pull those ones away. Do not classify an entire team as clowns due to a select few players. It was not the whole line. We even had some players walk of the field by themselves to get away from the mess. Second, I disagree with being the best defense in the state. If you guys were then capital and midland would not have been able to score at all. Because from rumors I have heard from the Ohio River Valley and what I have read the bulldogs keep the opposing team from scoring at all. Maybe I'm bias because I go to Huntington High but we were able to shut the bulldogs down the second half and held you to nine points. I hate to admit it but Huntington does not have the best offense. We can only really run the ball so being able to just shut down our running is easier then being able to shut down the runing and throwing like the bulldogs for example is a lot harder. I'm not saying we should have won because we had our chances but didn't finish. Huntington has the best defense to be able to hold the defending three time state champions who have blown everyone else out to only 9 points. I take that as a huge accomplishment. Hopefully they do meet again and play another amazing game of football. I'm not here to argue just only stating an opinion. Congrats bulldogs it was a well fought win! Four in a row is hard to do its impressive. All state games should be played like that. Congrats again.
December 9, 2013 at 11:19 pm |
Well said Roger!!!
December 8, 2013 at 9:14 pm |
Wow that's what you call unsportsmanlike conduct, you claim all your kids are from WV, I wonder, you are on the border of Ohio and Kentucky, our guys are from WV as well and proved today they are still #1 in West Virginia!! Great game to both amazing teams, Congrats Martinsburg on yet another class AAA title!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 7, 2013 at 2:43 pm |
If you would do some research you would find out that the surrounding areas in Ky and Ohio are not rich in athletic prowess. Its not like Huntington takes players from there. To be honest, the best athletes in the school are not even playing sports. For a variety of reasons they are not eligible to play. If they were Huntington would be near the top of AAA in every sport.
December 7, 2013 at 3:15 pm |
Well, that say's all we need to know... A handfull of more thugs, just like the loser TUBBS... BULLDOGS not once, not twice, not three times, but FOUR TIME AAA State Champs...
December 8, 2013 at 2:20 am |
Yes and that's impressive. But number 73 was not escorted off. It was number 50. 73 was trying to get his own teammates away. He is going to college to play football. He knows what's at stake if he fights or anything along those lines. He did get heated when a Martinsburg player did get in his face but he didn't retract like his other teammates. Congrats again on the 4 hard fought titles. It's impressive. Maybe we will face you guys again and good luck next year
December 9, 2013 at 11:31 pm |
I don't think I'm a crybaby. Just discussing the game. I would have loved for hhs to win, but... You're arrogant posts are puerile! Google it... Lol
December 9, 2013 at 12:04 pm |
Fall fan. Your a CRYBABY!!!!!! Your best lineman was #73 and he was one that was escorted off the field. Like i said NO CLASS CRY BABIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 8, 2013 at 4:10 pm |
Dogs1981 and roger, you guys are d**ks! There are good kids on the team. The most dominant player in the game was our two way lineman , cabell, and he is a great kid. Dont judge the rest of the boys by the actions of a few... Great game on both sides and the only domination going on was both defenses. You guys did what you had to when you had to to win the game.
December 8, 2013 at 10:22 am |
Excuses, excuses, excuses. SMH!
December 7, 2013 at 4:40 pm |
Our boys are all from huntington. Not ky or Ohio. Great defensive battle! Special teams blocked punt was the difference. I dont think anybody underestimated anybody. But maybe you. We shut youre very good team down. Just couldnt generate enough offense when it counted. Being one dimensional on offense caught up against a d that is very good. Our offensive penalties and lack of the i coordinator working on some wrinkles resulted in a win for a great team! Congrats.
December 7, 2013 at 3:02 pm |
If wasn't for 2 penalties. One that was bull crap. YOU Clowns wouldn't have even scored....
December 8, 2013 at 2:16 am |
ya you got 2 boys that I saw on the show Cop's
December 7, 2013 at 10:11 pm |
Well said Glenn!
December 7, 2013 at 2:47 pm |
Look in the mirror, Big John. There's your whiner.
December 7, 2013 at 2:42 pm |
What's wrong Johnny boy? Don't you get enough attention at home?
December 7, 2013 at 2:36 pm |
Big John: You sound like a spoiled brat. Don't make excuses. MRB lost four before they won one. HHS day will come.
December 7, 2013 at 2:32 pm |
HHS is so over-rated, roll dawgs
December 7, 2013 at 2:18 pm |
According to the predictions if scores from the burg people i would say martinsburg is the overrated team. Lol. Great game from both groups of boys!
December 7, 2013 at 3:11 pm |
Hey fan, all season long Huntington was rated #1. Talk about being overrated!
The Eastern Panhandle proved to you and the rest of the West Virginia who should have been ranked #1 and that team is the MARTINSBURG BULLDOGS 4 TIMES HIGH SCHOOL AAA CHAMPIONS!
December 8, 2013 at 9:20 pm |
Every year you guys should be ranked number 1 but always have a loss from out of state. Everyone knows Martinsburg should be the number one team but the statics do not fall that way. This was Huntington's first year of ever doing anything how could they be overrated? We just were happy because they had an undefeated regular season which has never happened in our schools history. Everyone knew Huntington was the underdog in the game and that the bulldogs were the power house. It was just nice for us because it had never happened before in history of our school. For the bulldogs it has happened multiple times. Congrats again. Bottom line you guys won and are number one.
December 9, 2013 at 11:28 pm |
What raio station is this on ? Can I pic it up on I heart or internet?
December 7, 2013 at 2:10 pm |
All of the kids are doing well. If the parents would let them play. and enjoy where they are
December 7, 2013 at 2:08 pm |
WVIRGINIAN FOR LIFE
Game over.....ball control by the dogs now.
December 7, 2013 at 2:04 pm |
December 7, 2013 at 1:56 pm |
-- any idea what total yards are at this point?
December 7, 2013 at 12:45 pm |
Correction- Halftime yardage: Martinsburg 114, Huntington 25. #wvprepfb
December 7, 2013 at 1:24 pm |
MHS 85 yards. HHS 23 yards.
December 7, 2013 at 1:14 pm |
Huntington can't run the same 4 plays they have ran this year and win this ballgame. Field position has been bad but I was hoping they would have thrown some plays in this week
December 7, 2013 at 12:38 pm |
Why are these championship game is not televised this state is so far behind
December 7, 2013 at 12:14 pm |
Simple. Money and the WVSSAC. That's why.
December 7, 2013 at 2:57 pm |
It is West Virginia, after all.
December 7, 2013 at 12:15 pm |
Today, David meets Goliath on Wheeling Island. Martinsburg going for their fourth straight championship meets Huntington, another hardworking blue collar team, playing its first state title. MHS has a tremendous recruiting base spanning virtually three states while HHS is based in the heart of Appalachia. Today, David will stun Goliath (again) and bring home the hardware. Go h-town, go!

"Today, David will stun Goliath (again) and bring home the hardware. Go h-town, go!"
So George, how does it feel to be WRONG?
December 7, 2013 at 2:50 pm |
who got the W georgie porgie?
December 7, 2013 at 10:13 pm |
This Martinsburg recruits talk is nothing more than sour grapes... last time I checked Huntington borders Kentucky & Ohio... just face it the Eastern Panhandle owns WV High School Athletics... All major sports championships now reside in the Panhandle! Take your beatin' like a man!
December 7, 2013 at 2:45 pm |
Let me tell you something Mburg does not recrute kids, they are as blue collared as it gets you people have a clouded judgement of the panhandle, I was once of of those kids who played and won championship games and do not be jealous of a winning team it just breeds hate

Don't know where you get the "recruiting" ideas. Fact is, the surplus of kids who can't get playing time at Martinsburg spill over to Hedgesville, Musselman, and not Spring Mills. Too much football talent for one school in a city less than 1/2 the size of Huntington.
December 7, 2013 at 12:04 pm |
How? You border a much bigger area that I would say has players pour over to you becasue they dont get playing time in other states.
December 10, 2013 at 9:54 am |
So you think kids who don't get playing time at other schools can come to Martinsburg and play?? I can assure you the surrounging out of state schools are not that great that their non starters pour into Martinsburg and make them a power house
December 10, 2013 at 12:53 pm |
December 10, 2013 at 1:21 pm |
Yeah, but are the kids home grown in Martinsburg or are they "temps" in the area for employment purposes? I'm not hating just trying to learn the system.
Homegrown Martinsburg citizens are for employment purposes. The ones that play football there, normally not being from Martinsburg, will move on to actually play in college.
December 7, 2013 at 12:16 pm |
Yeah, having a 19 year old QB that should be in college isn't odd. And the natives of Martinsburg that can't play at MHS, because of their recruiting, go to other schools. Good try.
December 7, 2013 at 12:12 pm |
You all are such poor loser's and your thugs, i mean kids are so classless and dirty it's apothetic. Take your lossd cry babies. All the talk, you all were going to kick our butts... Guess what, the best defense was there but it was the BULLDOGS, BABY...
December 8, 2013 at 2:33 am |
William, put the apple back and let me finish the job... I missed the 1st time. You lost, get over it you clown!!!!
December 8, 2013 at 2:27 am |
So you're saying that if a kid fails in the 3rd grade, he shouldn't be able to play as a senior? Really??
December 7, 2013 at 7:51 pm |
Sour grapes from hillbilly land.
December 7, 2013 at 1:57 pm |
You live in West Virginia too. We are all classified as hillbillies. Don't count yourself out.
December 10, 2013 at 1:57 pm |
And they don't recruit either. People love to assume stuff when another school is dominating. As someone who just graduated there recently, its pretty comical. Hard work is how they win.
December 7, 2013 at 12:34 pm |
I'm not saying they go out all over the east coast recruiting kids. I'm saying they'll get good players from near by schools. Get near by middle schools to send their best players to them.
December 7, 2013 at 12:46 pm |
He is definitely 18. Turns 19 in June. Not sure whats so unusual about that. Get your facts straight sir.
December 7, 2013 at 12:21 pm |
That's my bad, literally hit the wrong key. He should still be in college though.
December 7, 2013 at 12:27 pm |
What radio station is carrying the game?
December 7, 2013 at 11:41 am |
The game is on supertalk94.1
December 7, 2013 at 12:51 pm |
NOT on MetroNews
December 7, 2013 at 12:13 pm |
if you r in martinsburg and have cable try channel 10. not sure if rnr is carrying it or nor
December 7, 2013 at 12:52 pm |
History will be made today at the island. Also as a fun side note... The MSAC officials need to send their conference trophy to the unofficial Champs Martinsburg!
