Beckley man uses a sword in altercation

BECKLEY, W.Va. — A Raleigh County man is behind bars after allegedly stabbing two people with a sword Sunday.

Michael Hale, 27, of Beckley, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and two counts of malicious wounding.

Raleigh County Sheriff’s deputies said Hale entered a home on Bailey Avenue in Beckley early Sunday morning with a sword and started an altercation with Hershel Drenned.

During the incident, Drenned, 37, was cut several times with the sword while a second victim, 24-year-old Tabatha Farley, was stabbed in the foot.

Hale is currently being held at the Southern Regional Jail on a $1 million bond. The investigation is ongoing.
