IRVING, TX.– Redshirt Freshman guard Kareem Canty has been named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Canty had a bit road trip for The Herd at Vanderbilt and Penn State last week. Canty averaged 23 points, going 17-of-36 from the field on the week in road losses at Vanderbilt (Dec. 5) and Penn State (Dec. 7). He also shot 8-of-13 from beyond the arc for 61.5 percent. Canty set a career high for scoring at Penn State when he scored a game-high 28 points in 39 minutes. He scored 18 points and added four assists and two steals against Vanderbilt in 37 minutes.
Canty ranks tenth in the country and first in C-USA in with 6.7 assists per game.
The weekly awards are chosen by a media panel representing the 16 member schools.
